Heavy rains paralyze life across India: floodwaters engulf homes, hospitals, roads in multiple states
Monsoon fury continues to devastate several Indian states including West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh. Continuous heavy rains have led to severe waterlogging, overflowing rivers, and submergence of roads, homes, hospitals, and schools. In West Bengal’s Bankura and Purulia, over 100 families were shifted to relief camps as kuccha houses collapsed and streets turned into rivers. Local heroes in Bankura even saved a car from a flooded drain using ropes. In Madhya Pradesh’s Singrauli, gaping potholes filled with water sparked public outrage. People staged protests, accusing contractors of corruption. Hospitals in Morena and Mathura were flooded, leaving patients stranded. In Chhattisgarh, overflowing rivers cut off villages, while in Bihar’s Nalanda, a breached embankment triggered panic as river water rapidly entered residential zones. In Gaya, SDRF teams rescued trapped people from the swollen Falgu river using boats and ropes.Urban areas like Jamshedpur saw colonies submerged waist-deep, exposing the failure of drainage systems. In Maharashtra’s Palghar, a transformer pole collapsed in heavy rain, narrowly avoiding a tragedy. With the IMD predicting more rain in the coming days, the threat of floods, accidents, and disease looms large. Authorities face criticism for lack of preparedness and delayed responses across states.
